The Book of Jonas, by Stephen Dau, is about a boy that survives a village raid in the Middle East. He loses his family in the traumatic event and spends the book unraveling the truths to the mom of the man that saved his life while back in America. I read this book with my dad's "coming over from Vietnam" story in my mind, knowing that it's never an easy journey. Though the two stories have different scenarios, I could find a lot that related them both to one another.
I'm not normally one to read "war" or "military" books, but this one was more of a mystery book for me. It was a page turner and can even be read in a day if you're persistent. It's an easy read with shorter chapters than others. My only complaint about the book was the flow of Jonas's stories. He seemed to jump back and forth with each story and it was difficult to make a timeline of the events.
Although I'd categorize this book as a mystery, the ending is easy to guess while you're reading. You're never sure of it, but it's tucked in your head throughout the book as you read. Overall? It's another book I'd highly recommend.
