My birthday yesterday was amazing. Despite how many times I told my DB not to worry about getting me a gift or taking me out to eat because of our budget, he went above and beyond.
When we came home at midnight the morning of my birthday, he sneakily ran and grabbed a box from underneath his table. Turns out that he had my present for days, right in front of my eyes. I was oblivious because he had a ton of packages that came in the mail (mostly law books) so I didn't really pay attention.
Oh, that Amazon smile. He had it wrapped by them because wrapping is not his speciality. They used some serious heavy duty paper.
Eeeeep! A beautiful Kindle!! My inner nerd is ECSTATIC.
This was just the beginning; My DB had made dinner reservations a week in advance at a restaurant. He refused to tell me the name of it until we got there. Turn out it was an intimate French restaurant by the name of
Rivoli in North Berkeley. The restaurant itself is pretty small and quite popular with the elderly crowd, which means I fell in love with it instantly.
They had a table ready for us with "happy birthday" confetti scattered all over the table. Presh.
Any restaurant that serves bread while waiting is a winner in my book. They even gave us sea salt to sprinkle on top. How unique!
My dish: slow braised rosemary and garlic pork roast, artichoke and potato gratin, green and yellow beans, maître d’hôtel butter
My DB's dish: pollo al ajo, olive oil fried potatoes, roast eggplant, peppers, summer squash grati
We finished off dinner with dessert: a hot fudge sundae, with whipped cream and toasted nuts.
My goodness, this place was spectacular. From the service to the food, everything was top notch. My pork was so tender that I didn't even need a knife-- not even a butter knife! My DB's chicken was moist with a strong roasted flavor. It was like I ate 4 sticks of butter for dinner, which is pretty much heaven for me. The fudge in the sundae is to die for. I ate 3/4 of it when Gabe turned his head. I guess that's what happens when you leave me with dessert.
As if that wasn't enough, my DB took me to the California Theatre afterwards to watch "Don't be Afraid of the Dark." Cutest movie theater, ever. Oh, and my guilty pleasure is scary movies, so that's why he chose movie that instead of some chick flick.
After the movie, we met up with some of my DB's classmates at
Triple Rock Brewery to finish our night. One of them announced to the entire bar that it was my birthday and everyone there sang "happy birthday" to me! Totally mortifying, but exceptionally loving.
When I came home, I had some presents to open from my DB's mom and grandma.
A stunning tennis Swarovski bracelet from my DB's mom...
.. and a necklace from his grandma!
I also got a gift card from my mom & dad. Seriously, I'm so thankful for everyone. I can't believe how lucky I am to have all these people in my life. Thank you for making my 24th birthday a memorable one!!
